Right now, I'm thinking about Melian and Galadriel Elwing and Luthien Arwen and Eowen Sackville and Rosie.....Vanya and..... Ungoliant and.... Etc and.... My succinct take/s: Tolkien wrote the various women to be the heart, soul, and power of all that is within their "realms" - and usually beyond. -Lord Celeborn "rules" - but he is obviously subject to Galadriel's power. -Thingol is King of Doriath, but Melian set her "girdle" about that land - making Thingol's secured rule possible. -Earendil managed to make it to Aman, but Elwing was the one who brought the freed Silmaril with them. -Baren set forth to retrieve Silmarils, but he couldn't have done it without Luthien. Much more, but you all get my drift. Lobelia and Rosie certainly exert an interestingly obvious amount of power and influence. Arwen and Eowen do the same, but on a grander scale. (I feel like these four deserve more reflection.) ... I could write a lengthy essay elaborating my takes on each of these examples, but I didn't want to flood everybody's Friends pages (more than I already have)! I'd just like to hear what kind of takes Tolkien-folks have on this subject. |

I'm really hoping to get back to holiday camping this year. We'd have to leave xmas day (night!), but that would still leave us approximately a week. The kids want to return to the bayou. So do I!! Winter camping in the South ranks as one of my very favorite activities. Ya, I know y'all know. But that passion is fairly consuming. ....or maybe I just plain miss the South? (Plus, the reactions we get from folks when we roll into town with a car/truck covered in snow is priceless!) Damn. If we go, we really need to buy a new thingy to play music in our camp. I can't stand not being able to listen to Johnny Horton, delta blues, or Johnny Cash when I'm camping. Proper camping music, I call it! (And there's hardly ever anyone to bother, because nobody goes winter camping - even in the South.) ....Sometimes I wish that the Sex Pistols would be appropriate, but they just haven't fit the mood so far. I tell you, there aren't too many years left before the kids are either too busy or too opposed to camping it rustic-style. I'd like to squeeze in one more Christmas trip - like New Mexico a few years ago. Ornaments hanging on a scraggly pine with presents at it's feet, stockings hung on a clothesline *almost* over the camp fire, a gigantic "Yule Log" burning for days.... Kids grow up too quickly, and mine are already demanding more trips to luxurious places like Rome. We can't afford any more jaunts to Europe, at least for a few more years! I wanna go camping! |

One of my favorite things is the clash between the generations. More rightly stated --- The younger generation(s) are frustrated that the older generation(s) know more. And The older generation(s) are frustrated that the younger generation(s) know more. |

Oh well. I really almost liked Boone. (He was funky-cute, if not productive.) Torii's probably out for the season. *frown* (Ok, garrrghdangnabbitshista!) A few of my favorite early-season players have been called back up. (Ya, I know. Great! More "kids" in the infield. --- True, but I'm trying to keep up my faith.) Lew did fine tonight - not great, but better than most. (That's good Lew-news, btw. I really don't want to see him sent back down.) Justin hit his 16th homer! He's leading the club, now. Good for him! (And good for Ian, who idolizes Justin.) Oh, and since I never made an entry regarding the Bad News Twins (against the Red Sox, not too many days ago).... All I can say is - I saw it, I reacted, I laughed, and I cried. One more thing - it should have counted as three errors, not two, imho. The Twins need to get their shite together. |

Life is crazy. I can't wait for the heat to die down a little, so I can start my latest mosaic project. I'm trying desperately to garden, but this heat! Zoi! I think theatre camp was a perfect fit for Bailey (she definately blossomed). |

"Entering Tuesday, Minnesota relievers lead the Major Leagues with a 2.00 ERA and have a 0.95 ERA and four saves over the previous 11 games" (That's even without Rincon. There's spirit!) My opinion? As the season wears down many bullpens, our boys will shine more brightly. |

Gotta miss the Kentucky Derby this weekend. Only the second time since I was.....9? (I remember crowding around the radio in those early years, when we'd be up in the North Woods of Wisconsin at our cabin without a tv. Genuine Risk won in one of those radio-years.) |

Golly. You'd think that, knowing me, I would have taken this week of no work to...well, not work! However, I've barely been home. WTF?! Ah, but it's been so mighty productive (turning in *all* that stuff to Goodwill, shopping for my Gram, picking up bricks from my parents for my gardens, buying crickets for the dragon, doing whatever I can to save my front lawn, and all the household hoo-ha that always needs doing....), I'm thoroughly satisfied with the way I've spent the last few days. Plus, it's been raining beautifully. Word has it, the farmers are having a "perfect" Spring. (Not to mention, the gardeners!) Oh and --- Hey Zero! I washed my truck! Can you believe it?!?! *grin* Tomorrow looks almost as busy, but a bit more relaxed ....except for the tux fitting. (Gotta drive Ian to the side of town I hate driving - i.e. my old neighborhood. Blecht. The traffic over there is out of control. ~plaguesville~) Aside from all the above.... I'm well. (And I'll try to call you back, Sarah!) I wanna go for a bike ride. And, the Twins game was a real corker tonight! Now THAT'S baseball! |

Fuck. I had to work through the Twins' season opener (which had me so honkin' frustrated), so I failed to enter: There. I got that out of my system. |

Watched 'Coming to America' because my kids love Eddie Murphy. (*guffaw* Why am I not surprised that man went from ubber-raunchy to childish-delight? Ok. Dumb question.) Tried to go biking as a family, but seeing as how my bike is larger than the one E's mom bought him, we agreed he should use my bike. However, his bike needed to be adjusted to my height. ...... um.... Let's just say the people who made this particular bike were fuckheads. No dice. The buddy is now essentially broken. (But hey! That means I get my bike back!! Woo-hoo! *sniggle*) Bike ride abandoned, we drove to the big ol' Northeast park and played some baseball. (Well, Bailey got all uppity and wouldn't play, but the rest of us had a good ol' time.) I surprised myself by hitting ass-wicked like I used to when I was 14! At home, I tried something new: I made katsup (ketchup) from scratch! Must say, I've never done that before, yup. Why did I make ketchup?? To make ubber-incredible barbeque sauce!!! And as I write, that barbeque is workin' it's magic on some chicken in the backyard. But that's not all! I also welcomed a 2 year old bearded dragon into my chaotic household. Just "baby" sitting it, but the kids are enthralled. (I'm kinda entertained, as well.) We'll have it for about three weeks. Should be interesting. |

A thing I've never thought about doing until now --- How the hell do I link to another's specific entry? (I.e. to just one entry, not an entire journal) Happenstance, another journaller made a quirky entry. The entry is whacked, but the inadvertant relavence to myself is a kick. I want to link to it, and it alone ---- but I don't know, and can't find, how to do this. Give me some durned help, would some one of ya? |
